“1 + 1 = 3 ; Punching our weight & Extending our shadow”

Our group meeting this year was held on the 28th & 29th of May 2015. The first day, each office presented their own work/success over the latest year, and the

second day we focused on how we could reinforce our group with the topic “1 + 1 = 3 ; Punching our weight & Extending our shadow”

As an opening, Donal welcomed everybody to Bangkok, following by Mao from SL+A Taipei who recapped the Group Marketing tools and efforts since last year. Charles from SL+A Bangkok updated group website, newsletter, and other kinds of social media which should be developed as essential communication tools to our clients.

The first TED Talk is under the topic “HR Strategy: How To     Retain Your Employee”. The guest speaker is Mr. Mike Holloway, Director of RSM Recruitment (Thailand) Limited.

He gave us a guideline on what were the key reasons that staff leave their jobs:

– boss in denial and

– poor leadership

and how to motivate them to stay longer and work at their best:

– providing development program

– building good relationships between their supervisors.

Mid-morning, each office started to present their project highlights from last year beginning with SL+A Bangkok by Ken and SL+A Singapore by Mark.

The second TED Talk was given by Mr. Michael Tang from Jones Lang Lasalle. He is a Project Manager who has extensive experience on corporate turnkey projects working with many interior design firms.

After lunch, we continued office presentations with SL+A Taipei, Tokyo, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, and Shanghai respectively.

For the last part of the day, David, Edward and Sharon updated the group on SL+A HOTELS which would represent the group as a Design Specialist on Hospitality projects. SL+A HOTELS is now forming a Master brochure following the group identity guidelines.

After the meeting, we took time out for a photo session at the hotel rooftop and went for dinner on a traditional Thai boat along the exquisite Chao Phraya River.

Day two, Martin talked about the company’s vision concept of “1 + 1 = 3 ; Punching our weight & Extending our shadow”. We broke into 5 groups brainstorming on the intents and actions to shape the company’s brand in the future.

The final TED Talk was by Mr. Kelvin Beauvais from Invision Hospitality. He gave us ideas of the current thinking, market, and design situation of hotels & resorts, and some advice on design and design partnership with hospitality consultants.

The meeting closed with the key word “undeniable” as Steven Leach’s group aspiration and moniker.

All SL+A staff enjoyed the meeting this year in Bangkok. That’s us of the hook until 2025!
